Digital Twin
A virtual representation of a physical object (machine, plant, component) that stores and mirrors data, states, and history throughout the entire lifecycle.
What is a Digital Twin?
The term is often misunderstood as a mere 3D model (CAD). In maintenance, however, the data-based twin is much more important than the geometric twin. It is the digital memory of the plant. It connects three levels:
- Master data: What is it? (Nameplate, manufacturer, year of construction)
- Movement data: What does it do? (Live sensor data, power consumption, temperature)
- History: What has been done? (Maintenance logs, replaced parts, modifications)
Why 3D images are not enough
Many companies invest millions in attractive 3D visualizations of their factory. But when the machine is down, the 3D image often doesn't help. The technician needs the information: "When was the bearing last replaced and what grease was used?" A true Digital Twin in terms of Operational Intelligence must be able to answer these questions. It is not a static image but a dynamic life record.
The approach of Hahn PRO
With the Asset Manager and ADAM, we create the Digital Twin automatically, without expensive 3D scans.
- Asset capture: We extract master data from the ERP.
- Enrichment: We add documents (PDFs) and photos.
- Live update: Every feedback from a worker ("Valve replaced") updates the twin in real-time. Thus, the twin grows with the plant and becomes more valuable every year.
