GAIA-X
A European initiative to build a networked, open data infrastructure. GAIA-X is not a cloud, but a set of rules that ensures data can be exchanged according to European values (sovereignty, GDPR compliance) – regardless of which server they are on.
What is GAIA-X?
Many mistakenly consider GAIA-X to be a 'European cloud' as a competitor to AWS or Azure. This is incorrect. GAIA-X is a federated system. This means: It connects different cloud providers and edge devices through common standards (policy rules). The goal is to create data spaces where companies can share data without losing control over it.
Why is this relevant for the industry?
In connected manufacturing (Industry 4.0), value creation does not end at the factory gate. You need to share data with suppliers, customers, or machine manufacturers. GAIA-X provides the basis of trust for this:
- Identity management: Every participant (human or machine) has a verified digital identity.
- Sovereignty: The data provider determines the terms of use ('These data may only be used for purpose X and only for 24 hours').
- Interoperability: Data from different sources (e.g., Siemens and Bosch) become comparable.
Hahn PRO and GAIA-X
We don't build theoretical slides, we build connectors. Hahn Projects is deeply rooted in GAIA-X development (including through the funded projects SealedServices and SMiLE). Our solution ADAM is 'GAIA-X ready'. This means: When you use ADAM, you are already structuring your machine data so that it can be securely shared and monetized in large data spaces (like Manufacturing-X or Catena-X) in the future. We make the abstract standard usable for medium-sized businesses.
